What are sweeps coins?

Almost every social casino runs a dual-currency model. The first currency is for play: you get it free, you use it on any game, and what you win with it stays in the game. It is scorekeeping, and there is nothing behind it.

The second currency is the promotional one — the one usually called sweeps coins, sweepstakes coins, or in our case Coverd Cash. This is what a promotional sweepstakes uses as its entry mechanism. Play with it and win, and the winnings can be redeemed for real value once you clear the minimum.

On Coverd, the free currency is coins and the redeemable one is Coverd Cash. Every game in the arcade can be played with either.

The structure comes from sweepstakes law, not from game design. A promotional sweepstakes has to be open to people who have not paid anything — that is the legal basis of the whole format, and it is why you will see 'no purchase necessary' printed on everything.

So the promotional currency has to be obtainable free. Purchasing a coin package is a purchase of coins; the promotional entries that come with it are attached to the promotion, not sold. That distinction sounds like paperwork, and it is also the reason the model is legal in most of the country.

Two numbers matter more than any promotion. The first is the redemption minimum — the balance you have to reach before you can redeem anything. The second is whether redemption is a real, documented process with a bank connection at the end of it, or something vague.
